Herbalists to be statutorily regulated in the UK

The Department of Health announced this week that herbalists, including practitioners of Chinese herbal medicine, will be regulated by the Health Professions Council (HPC). This is excellent news for supporters of alternative medicine who have been advocating statutory regulation as it will mean that only the most competent herbalists can continue to treat the public.

The full analysis report on the consultation that led to the decision can be read here.

Hopefully this same announcement will be made regarding acupuncture in the near future. This would legitimize and credit acupuncturists who have trained hard so that they can offer excellence to their patients.
